Chaturanga is an often hurried through asana. Found in Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutations, it is treated mostly as a transition and not as a posture alone. Challenge your self to practice this asana for 21 days, slowly increasing your time holding. To challenge yourself further, instead of lowering down from plank, try lifting up from the floor.
How do you lift up from the floor? Place your hands on the floor elbows bent and hugging your ribcage. Press hands forward, as if you are trying to straighten your arms. Feel the chest lift, keep the pelvis and thighs on the mat. Engage the quadriceps, front of the thighs, and feel the knees straighten. Contract the psoas and abdominals to lift the pelvis up from the floor. Keep your abdominals engaged. Activate the buttocks to balance the force of the activated hip flexors and to help stabilize the pelvis. Hold... and breathe.
